The owner of a Western Sydney pizza shop has been fatally stabbed in the chest as police arrest six teenagers over the shocking incident.

Emergency services were called to The Pizza Stop on the Great Western Highway, near Kingswood Train Station, about 10.20pm on Tuesday after a 58-year-old man was found with a single stab wound to his chest.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the restaurant before he was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he died.

Superintendent Trent King, Commander of the Nepean Police Area, said four males and two females, aged between 14 and 19, were assisting police with their inquiries.

No charges have been laid.

Supt King said the 58-year-old had sustained a ‘gruesome’ injury.

‘This was a gentleman that was going about his business, running his business, within the local area and certainly didn’t deserve what occurred,’ he said.

‘My understanding is that this gentleman was very closely connected to this community for a very long time. I certainly empathise with every person that knows him, and his family. Everything was done that could possibly be done.’

Supt King said police were ‘leaving no stones unturned’ and were investigating multiple lines of inquiry.

Investigators will work to establish why the group of teenagers, who were previously known to police, were near the store on Tuesday night.

‘Initial investigations indicated those teenagers were in and around the vicinity at the time. They are known to police [but] weren’t dining in the restaurant,’ Supt King said.

Several police officers were seen speaking to witnesses outside the store which was cordoned off with police tape overnight.

The crime scene has since been extended to cover a row of stores beside The Pizza Stop, extending about 100metres down the road.

Police laid yellow crime scene cones around the pizza store and taped off a parking lot across the road on Wednesday morning.

Drivers on the Great Western Highway saw detectives scouring the nearby area and talking to passersby.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the stabbing to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
